This morning I woke up and headed into the city to have a wander. My sights were set on the South Melbourne Market. After arriving at Southern Cross Station, I decided to walk the 1.3 miles to the market. Once I arrived, I found the market reminded me of a flea market, but better. Very clean and organized. I mosied my way up and down the aisles in search of breakfast, but first… coffee!
I stopped at Pedro Coffee and grabbed myself a small latte. Let me tell you… unbelievable. I have been told that Aussie coffee is some of the best in the world, and it’s true! I had to very consciously drink the latte so I wouldn’t get sick from practically chugging it. I procceded around the corner into the Food Hall and came across a cute cafe called “Proper and Son”.
One quick look at the menu and I saw they had Lamington French Toast. French toast is my go-to for breakfast food, regardless of the time of day. Morning, noon, night, I’m always ready for french toast. Now Lamington is a traditional Australian sponge cake, that typically has chocolate and coconut. I figured, a new food combined with my favorite? Deal!
What came to my table was better than I expected! I basically had an amazing cake for breakfast… I’m on vacation so it’s allowed! 😉
From there I walked back to city centre and purposely got lost. I wandered the streets and laneways, eventually ending up by Flinders Street Station. Backtracked my way to Southern Cross to head back home, but not before grabbing a Nutella donut (upper left corner – called “Love at first bite”) at “Donut Time”!
The transportation and getting around Melbourne in general is super easy and convenient. There are trams everywhere to take you quickly where you need to go. The train ride home is about 30 minutes. I think I’ll have a nap when I get back 🙂
